“Science Ninja Team Gatchaman”, or simply “Gatchaman” is a Japanese animation produced by Tatsunoko Productions in 1972. The TV animation, in a series of 3 seasons, has become one of the most phenomenal classic sci-fi anime to date. Its artistry was outstanding, with groundbreakingly innovative costume and character design, as well as styles of futuristic realism from the depiction of robots. Critically acclaimed for its portrayal of themes of science, war and other solemn real-life issues, as well as the dramatization of family relationships and the characters, the anime added a remarkable level of realism to the story, which greatly influenced the creative development of future Japanese Sci-Fi Hero anime.
First-ever curated by Caravango.store, this is an unprecedented crossover project by Jason Freeny and Gatchaman to create the G-1 Ken artistic figure. Jason, showing immense respect for this collaboration project, faithfully retains the original details of the character’s profile, including the facial contours, the thick eyebrows, and the enormous eyes. From its costume to the helmet it wears and the weapon it holds, the figure’s entire shape was modeled according to the character’s original storyline.
Jason creates smart, intricate works of art by injecting his own personality into his design. Ken’s head is made to be oversized to enhance the doll’s amiability; and obviously, Ken’s bones and internal organs are seen through his superhero suit and skin - courtesy of Jason Freeny’s iconic anatomical character dissection, yielding a more humanized display of the Ken character. Working closely with Mighty Jaxx, this reimagined design of Ken was then brought to life in a premium limited edition art collectible.
